Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) President Johannes Adams and CEO Corrie van Zyl lauded the province’s standout performers at Thursday’s glittering Cricket South Africa (CSA) Awards in Johannesburg, where professionals and amateurs alike were honoured for stellar 2024/25 campaigns.
Adams said: “On behalf of the WPCA Board, I extend our warmest congratulations to all the winners at this year’s CSA Awards. These remarkable achievements reflect the dedication of our players, the guidance of our coaches and the tireless work of
our staff – particularly CEO Corrie van Zyl, Cricket Services Manager Clinton du Preez, and the entire cricket ecosystem. Their collective efforts ensure Western Province remains a powerhouse in South African cricket, from grassroots to international levels.”
Van Zyl praised the province’s outstanding performers. “Annually, the CSA Awards recognise outstanding achievements across both amateur and professional cricket. Both the WPCA’s amateur structure and the World Sports Betting (WSB) Western Province professional men’s and women’s teams were well represented amongst the winners of the various categories at the gala event. These outstanding achievements across both amateur and professional cricket show the importance of WSB Western Province Cricket’s contributions to the broader CSA eco-system and assisting the Proteas men and women to be world-class performers.”
The WSB Western Province Women shone brightly, with captain Leah Jones crowned Women’s SACA Most Valuable Player of the Year and allrounder Kayla Reyneke named Hollywoodbets Pro 20 Player of the Season.
Among the Boys in Blue, fast bowler Nandre Burger claimed the Best Delivery Fuelled by KFC award for his fiery dismissal of West Indies’ Mikyle Louis during the second Test match in Guyana, while stalwart Dane Paterson was recognised for his consistent contributions as he was presented with the Makhaya Ntini Power of Cricket Award for his inspirational impact on and off the field.
WP’s talent pipeline delivered at the CSA Pathway Awards, with Raeeq Daniels (Khaya Majola Cricket Week Player of the Tournament) and Miya Lalor (U16 Girls’ Player of the Tournament) headlining the next generation. In addition, the Hubs Coach of the Yearaward, Shahied Adonis and CSA Umpires’ Umpire of the Year, Abdoellah Steenkamp, rounded out the accolades.
Cricket Services Manager, Clinton du Preez stated, “I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations and sincere appreciation to all individuals and teams recognised at the recent CSA Pathway Awards. The outstanding performances by our players, coaches, and officials are a testament to the strength and depth of our cricket pipeline. These accolades are not only individual milestones but also affirm the collective effort of our pathway structures. We remain committed to supporting and strengthening these programs to ensure continued growth and success in Western Province cricket.”
Van Zyl expressed immense pride in all the winners, whose achievements cement Western Province’s position as a leader in South African cricket.
