Proteas Women squads for Pakistan inbound tour announced

The South African Women’s Selection Panel has named the T20 International (T20I) and One-Day International (ODI) squads that will face Pakistan in a limited-overs inbound tour from 10 February-1 March.

For the three-match T20I series, which is geared towards preparing for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England, 20-year-old former South Africa Under-19 Women's captain, Kayla Reyneke, has earned her maiden national call-up.

She will join a group that includes captain Laura Wolvaardt and all-rounders Chloé Tryon, Nadine de Klerk and Marizanne Kapp following their exploits in the Women’s Premier League in India, along with experienced teammates Dané van Niekerk, Masabata Klaas, Suné Luus and Ayabonga Khaka.

The squad will also be strengthened by the addition of wicketkeeper-batters Sinalo Jafta and Karabo Meso, left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba and all-rounder Annerie Dercksen. Tazmin Brits and Ayanda Hlubi also return after missing out against Ireland.

The ODI series will mark the start of the Proteas’ ICC Women’s Championship (IWC) cycle, which serves as the qualification pathway to the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2029.

The 50-over squad will feature four changes from the T20I group, with top-order batters Lara Goodall and Faye Tunnicliffe, all-rounder Nondumiso Shangase, as well as seamer Tumi Sekhukhune, brought into the fold. They will replace Khaka, Klaas, Reyneke and Van Niekerk.

The Proteas Women will assemble in Potchefstroom on Thursday, 5 February, ahead of the T20I series from 10-16 February. The focus will then shift to the IWC ODI series on 22 and 25 February, as well as the fifth edition of the Black Day ODI at the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium in Durban on Sunday, 1 March.

Proteas Women head coach Mandla Mashimbyi commented: “We are very pleased to be able to select two competitive squads, ahead of what will be a very demanding period for the team, with tours against New Zealand and India still to come before the T20 World Cup.

“The team is full of confidence after the way we ended 2025 but now we have to go again. It will be up to each individual to ensure we maintain and improve on our performances from last year.

“We are not settling for anything less, and this tour against Pakistan - a side we know very well and who can be a tricky opponent on their day - will go a long way in helping us execute our plans and review what works and what we need to focus on going forward.

Those factors played a key role in determining how both teams were set up to achieve the desired outcomes over the coming months.

“Kayla Reyneke has always been a talent to watch. She has recently shown clear growth in both her skill set and maturity in her game. This selection is a nod to her consistent progress and allows her to showcase what she can do at an international level.”
