South Africa Under-19 Women are set to take on Ireland and USA in the Super Six stage of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Malaysia 2025.
They’ll kick off super sixes against Ireland U19 Women on Saturday at 8.30am SAST, before taking on USA on Tuesday (4.30am SAST) at the Borneo Cricket Ground in Sarawak.
This, after an exceptional group-stage performance, where the team topped the Group C log. The Junior Proteas remain unbeaten and poised to continue their impressive run in the tournament.
The SA team faced both competitors in their World Cup preparations at home and head coach, Dinesha Devnarain, is confident that the team is only looking ahead for this crucial next stage.
“The team has been performing exceptionally well both on and off the field throughout the tournament. Our focus remains on ensuring growth and continued improvement in key areas as we advance.
“We’ve faced both Ireland and the USA in preparation for this World Cup but the conditions and stakes are now different. We’ve been preparing the team to adapt to these challenges and approach each game as though we don’t have the upper hand. Momentum and learnings from the group stages will be crucial, but we know past performances mean little now - it’s about what we can control and how we execute in these matches,” she said.
Devanarain also urged South Africans to rally behind the team as they look to create their history.
“This team, like the 2023 squad before them, aims to inspire every young boy and girl to pick up a bat and ball. Beyond winning matches and World Cups, these players are invested in what their success means for South Africa holistically. We’ve felt the support all the way in Malaysia, and it means so much to the team. To everyone back home, please continue backing these girls. While nothing in life is guaranteed, with your hope and faith, we truly believe we can achieve anything,” Devnarain concluded.
