Women's rankings permutations

World Rugby has published the ranking permutations for the penultimate round of the Guinness Women's Six Nations 2024 this weekend.

Teams

  • England cannot improve their rating this weekend due to the 23.83 points advantage they have over Ireland before home weighting is factored in.

  • The Red Roses will stay top of the rankings in defeat but the 5.62-point gap between themselves and New Zealand in second could be cut by as many as three points.

  • France, in third, are also unable to gain any points this weekend due to the 14.59 points differential between themselves and hosts Wales.

  • However, France will drop below Canada to fourth if they lose to Wales in Cardiff.

  • Such a scenario would lift Wales above a Scotland side beaten by Italy in Parma.

  • Depending on the margin, a win for Italy over Scotland could be worth up to 0.95 points. However, this still wouldn’t be enough for the Azzurre to improve on sixth as Australia have a 4.16-point cushion over them.

  • Sixth place is on the line, however, in that match with Scotland needing to avoid defeat to swap places with Italy.

  • The only thing that could prevent that from happening if Scotland draw would be if Wales beat France by more than 15 points as this would see Wales climb to sixth, Scotland remain seventh and Italy drop two to eighth.

  • Ireland will replace USA in ninth place if they avoid defeat against England at Twickenham.

  • Eighth is possible if they win and Wales fail to beat France.

Match officials

  • Aurélie Groizeleau (France) takes charge of England v Ireland for the first time. England are unbeaten in Tests with the French official in the middle, while Ireland have a won two, lost one record.

  • Maggie Cogger-Orr (New Zealand) will referee Italy v Scotland for the first time with both sides yet to win a Test with the New Zealand official in the middle.

  • Hollie Davidson (Scotland) will also take charge of Wales v France for the first time with the home side hoping to end a run of three successive defeats with the Scottish official is referee. France won their last outing with Davidson as referee, beating world champions New Zealand in WXV 1 last October.
