Toyana returns home as Fidelity Titans head coach

Titans Cricket is pleased to announce the appointment of Geoffrey Toyana as head coach of the Fidelity Titans women's team, ahead of the 2026/2027 season.

The appointment marks a homecoming for Toyana, who returns to the Sky Blues after previously serving as assistant coach for the Momentum Multiply Titans men's team from 2019/2020 to 2022/2023, before spending three seasons as head coach of the Easterns

Cricket men's team.

Toyana's connection to Titans Cricket runs deep. He was a Titans player during his playing days and it was at the union that he brought his professional playing career to a close in 2008, moving straight into coaching thereafter.

Speaking about his return, Toyana said it feels good to be back home, among familiar faces and familiar surroundings. He described the opportunity as a chance to expand his coaching horizons, having already spent the past two months working with the hubs and seeing the level he can bring. For Toyana, coaching has always been about connecting with people and he counts that as one of his greatest strengths.

On what drew him to the women's professional team, Toyana pointed to a talented group of players and the serious intent behind Titans Cricket's commitment to taking women's cricket to new heights. Drawing on the skills and structures he has built over his years in

coaching, he is focused on putting the right foundations in place to help this group reach greater heights.

Looking ahead, Toyana's vision for the Fidelity Titans is clear: apply the structures and experience gained over his coaching career, back the talent already in the squad and help drive women's cricket at Titans Cricket to new heights.

Commenting on the appointment, Titans Cricket CEO Dr Jacques Faul said, "Geoffrey knows this environment and he knows what it takes to build a winning culture. His experience, both as a player and a coach, combined with the relationships he has already built through his work with our hubs, makes him the right man to lead the Fidelity Titans into this next chapter. We are excited to welcome him back home."

Meanwhile, SuperSport Park played host to a night of celebration, nostalgia and gratitude on Thursday evening, as Titans Cricket brought together sponsors, Titans legends, current stars and stakeholders for a gala dinner marking 40 years since the stadium first opened its gates in 1986.

Set in the heart of Centurion and long recognised for its grass embankments and vibrant matchday atmosphere, SuperSport Park has grown into one of South African cricket's most iconic venues, having hosted 30 Proteas Test matches and recorded 24 victories against just three defeats. It remains a home for both domestic and international cricket and the milestone gave the union the opportunity to reflect on four decades of history under one roof.

The formal evening opened with a welcome address from Titans Cricket President Damian Wiedemann, setting the tone for a programme built around two panel discussions that traced the stadium's journey from its earliest days to the present. The first panel was led by Faul and brought together Honorary Life Member Vincent Sinovich, Marketing Manager Tshegofatso Rakumakoe and Head Groundsman Bryan Bloy.

Sinovich, whose association with the union stretches back to 1962, took guests on a journey through the decades, while Bloy reflected on his ten years at SuperSport Park and how the introduction of new technology and AI has transformed the way the ground is maintained, helping shape it into the premium playing surface on which so many careers have flourished. The conversation also touched on the stadium's ongoing upgrades, including the way Titans stars are celebrated throughout the venue, with areas of the ground named in their honour.

Guests were treated to musical interludes from violinist Clementine and singer Zinah Rose between proceedings, before a second panel discussion, chaired by Commercial Manager Pierre Joubert, brought Titans legends Albie Morkel, Anton Ferreira and Lee Bernard

together to look back on their playing days at the ground. Ferreira spoke fondly of the pitch as his enduring favourite feature of SuperSport Park and the trio reminisced about the role the crowd has always played in making it a special place to represent the Titans, with the fans' support consistently making it a pleasure to take the field.

Throughout the evening, the Titans' top 50 men's players and top 20 women's players were celebrated alongside the legends and current stars in attendance, a fitting tribute to a ground that has produced more than 60 Proteas players through domestic cricket. It was a reminder of just how many careers have been built on the SuperSport Park pitch and how the venue continues to serve as a launching pad for the next generation of Proteas talent.

Speaking on the night, Faul reflected on the significance of the milestone: “For 40 years, SuperSport Park has been more than just a venue, it has been a home for our players, our fans and our partners. None of what this ground has achieved would have been

possible without the sponsors who have stood beside us throughout this journey and tonight was our chance to say thank you.”

As the evening drew to a close, it was clear that SuperSport Park's story is still being written. Forty years on from its opening, the ground stands as a symbol of how far SuperSport Park has come – and, with the memories shared and the milestones celebrated on the night, a reminder of the legacy still to be built in the decades ahead.
