The Metro North Zonal KFC Mini-Cricket Festival brought smiles, excitement and plenty of cricket to Atlantis as 120 young players gathered at Kerria Primary School for a fun-filled day of sport, learning and community over the weekend.
Players from Westfleur Primary School, Saxon Sea Primary School, LEN Sports Academy, Berzelia Primary School, St Thomas Primary School, Witsand Primary School and Liebenberg Primary School from Malmesbury took part in two rounds of Mini-Cricket, showcasing their skills while enjoying the spirit of the game.
The festival provided the young players with an opportunity to develop their cricketing abilities, build confidence and, most importantly, enjoy the game in a positive and inclusive environment.
Despite the misty conditions, the enthusiasm on the field was matched by a wonderful turnout from teachers, parents and members of the Atlantis community who came out in numbers to support the children.
“It was important for us to reach the community of Atlantis and to see how the kids enjoy sport within a safe environment. The community came out to support their children and their future stars. We are hoping to make this an annual event within the Atlantis community,” said Christopher Engelbrecht, KFC Metro North Zonal Coordinator.
The event was made possible through the generous support of various partners who came on board and shared their enthusiasm for being part of this important initiative.
A special appreciation goes to Six Sense Marketing for providing the KFC Mini-Cricket t-shirts and Mini-Cricket sets, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) for its sound support, the Robinvale High School MOD Centre for providing entertainment, and Atlantis Cricket Club for assisting with coaching throughout the festival.
The festival was a wonderful example of schools, sporting organisations, businesses and the community coming together to create positive opportunities for children and a reminder that the future of cricket starts with giving young players a safe, positive place to play.
“We thank the Atlantis community for coming out in such great numbers to support our young players. We are committed to rolling out more programmes in Atlantis, creating training and development opportunities that build a clear pathway from KFC Mini Cricket through to club-level cricket, and keeping the game alive and well in the community,” Clinton Du Preez, WPCA Cricket Services Manager.
The Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) extends its sincere thanks to Kerria Primary School for hosting the festival and warmly welcoming the participating teams. The WPCA also thanks KFC Atlantis for its generous sponsorship and support in making the event possible.
