Titans make it four from four in Hollywoodbets Pro20 while rain spoils Durban encounter

The Fidelity Titans claimed a convincing victory over the Warriors, while the encounter between the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and the DP World Lions was abandoned due to inclement weather in the fifth week of the Hollywoodbets Pro20 Series on Sunday.

The Dolphins-Lions clash at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead in Durban was called off without a ball being bowled following early morning showers, leaving both teams in third and fourth place, respectively.

In Gqeberha, Suné Luus delivered an all-round performance to help guide the Titans to a 48-run win over newcomers Warriors, extending their perfect record at the top of the log to four wins from four matches.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, the Titans faced pressure from disciplined Warriors bowling, with the visitors restricted to 29/2 in the sixth over following early strikes from Aphilile Adonisi (2/20) and Asaphila Jani (1/19).

The Titans responded well, with Luus contributing a crucial run-a-ball 37, including a 33-run partnership for the third wicket with Tebogo Macheke (15), before youngster Cayleigh Wanckel (2/30) removed both batters in quick succession.

Despite losing wickets after making solid starts, the Titans’ middle order made valuable contributions, led by Amogelang Maphangula (17) and Caitlin Wyngaard (19), to help post a competitive total of 126/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

In their chase, the Warriors found it difficult to get going at the crease, with the Titans bowlers managing to keep the required run rate climbing and the hosts under pressure.

Despite valiant efforts from Palesa Mapoo (27) and youngster Chris-Mari Bezuidenhout (13), the Warriors fell 48 runs short of the target, finishing on 78/8 after 20 overs, with Luus (2/8) and Anneke Bosch (2/8) leading the way in a clinical bowling display from the Centurion-based side.
