Titans extend Hollywoodbets Pro50 lead as Lions move into second

The Fidelity Titans and the DP World Lions secured comfortable wins over the Warriors and the Hollywoodbets Dolphins, respectively, in the latest round of the Hollywoodbets Pro50 Series on Saturday.
The Titans maintained their stronghold at the top of the table with an emphatic nine-wicket triumph over the newly promoted Warriors at Nelson Mandela University in Gqeberha.
In Durban, the Lions defeated the Dolphins by 68 runs to move into second place on the log, following notable half-centuries from Tazmin Brits (75 off 76 balls; 13x4, 1x6) and Mieke van Voorst (68 off 83 balls; 8x4), followed by a four-wicket haul from spinner Kgomotso Rapoo.
Earlier, the Dolphins won the toss and elected to field under overcast conditions on home soil. Despite early wickets from Nobulumko Baneti (2/25), the Lions fought back through an important 80-run partnership for the third wicket between Brits and Karabo Meso (32), before the latter teamed up with Van Voorst to help the visitors close in on the 150-run mark.
Van Voorst, who also captains the SA U19 Women, added crucial runs while batting with the lower order, bringing up her maiden fifty of the season before being the last wicket to fall as the Lions posted a competitive 231/8 after 50 overs.
With ball in hand, the Lions made it a difficult chase for the Dolphins, picking up wickets at regular intervals.
Although Robyn Searle (35) and skipper Nondumiso Shangase (46*) did their best to put up a fight with the willow, the Lions bowlers shared the wickets among themselves to leave the home side reeling on 87/6 in the 28th over before captain Rapoo wrapped up the contest with three late scalps to seal a 68-run victory.
In Gqeberha, the encounter was even more straightforward for the visitors after the Titans won the toss and elected to bowl first. The away side ripped through the Warriors’ batting order, with Eliz-Mari Marx (4/7) and Masabata Klaas (2/11) the chief destroyers upfront, helping reduce the home outfit to 20/5 in the ninth over.
Things didn’t get any better for the Warriors, as Caitlin Wyngaard (2/6), Paulinah Mashishi (1/6) and Marx added to the wickets column to skittle out the hosts for 48 in 20 overs.
The Titans made light work of the chase despite losing opener Amogelang Maphangula (2), as Miané Smit (24*) and Suné Luus (18*) guided the Centurion-based side over the line with 39.4 overs to spare.
The Hollywoodbets Pro Series continues on Sunday, with the Hollywoodbets Pro20 taking centre stage. Entry is free, and the action will also be streamed live on Cricket South Africa’s YouTube channel.
