Lions Cricket is thrilled to retain the title of South Africa’s Sports Organisation of the Year 2024. The Sports Industry Awards celebrated all from far and wide on Tuesday, with The Pride once again walking away with the highest honours.
The year that’s been is certainly worth celebrating as President of Central Gauteng Lions Mashilo Matsetela warmly congratulates all those who continuously go above and beyond.
“Striving for excellence off the field is as important as on it. We are exceptionally proud to be re-awarded as Sport Organisation of the Year, re-affirming that we take pride in our work, our game, our people and our very valued partners. A heartfelt thank you to all those who work late nights, weekends and make tremendous sacrifices in order to ensure that this brand once again tops the scoreboard.”
Lions Cricket Marketing Manager Lebohang Mokgethwa is in agreement with Mr Matsetela.
“The Lions Cricket staff continue to serve this Pride as if it’s their own family. We love what we do and who we do it for, and so to be recognised at these prestigious awards is tremendous – especially as we head into the festive season to rest and reboot for a cracking 2025.”
A few highlights from 2024 include

These are only a few highlights as the list of celebrations could go on and on about what has been a very special and incredible 2024. Lions Cricket has also claimed 15 titles in the last five years and won multiple awards at this year’s CSA’s annual gala function. The request to maintain such a high standard is recognised, appreciated and indeed relished as the Pride pushes to keep up with all the on-field and off-field accolades.
Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright says that settling for second is never an option.
“Our Pride members continuously strive for excellence in all that we do and we have long since accepted that pressure is a privilege. We’re not a big team, but we’re a united and committed one – committed to cricket, social upliftment, the communities we serve, our Province and our Country all underpinned by driving excellence consistently. A hearty congratulations too to CSA Chief Executive Officer Pholetsi Moseki on his Leadership in Sport Business Award, we are proud of him and his team at CSA that support him daily. Thank you to The Sports Industry Awards team, the judges, the sponsors and all involved for a wonderful evening of celebration. Lastly, to my special staff, superb players, our incredible fans, our amazing partners, all our caring stakeholders, my wonderful Board and everyone who contributes to the success of the Lions Pride: This win extends far beyond our boundary ropes and we fully acknowledge what a tremendous group effort this achievement was: I thank you all and I know that we will move forward onwards and upwards together.”
