Fortuin set to lead Proteas Men in Namibia

The South African Men’s selection panel has announced the 15-player squad for the white-ball tour to Namibia later this month.

DP World Lions spinner Bjorn Fortuin will captain the side as the Proteas take on Namibia and Zimbabwe in a T20 International (T20I) Tri-series from 28 August-6 September at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek.

The squad will remain in the capital city for a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series against the hosts from 9-13 September, which will be the first-ever 50-over series between the two nations.

Momentum Multiply Titans all-rounder Duan Jansen has earned his maiden national call-up after impressing domestically.

The 26-year-old delivered consistently across both white-ball formats and was named Division 1 One-Day Cup Player of the Year for the 2025/26 season, having guided the Titans to the 50-over title with a match-winning unbeaten 61 in the final against the DP World Lions.

His Titans teammate and all-rounder Eathan Bosch is the other uncapped T20I player in the squad, while batters Connor Esterhuizen (Lions) and Jordan Hermann (Dafabet Warriors), along with Hollywoodbets Dolphins seamer Nqobani Mokoena have received their first ODI call-ups.

The squad is bolstered by the inclusion of nationally-contracted players Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi and Kwena Maphaka.

The Proteas will depart for Windhoek from OR Tambo International Airport on 25 August.

Head coach Shukri Conrad commented: “We’ve selected one squad for both series as we feel we have all departments well covered and it provides a great opportunity for players to build on their international caps.

“We saw glimpses of what Connor and Nqobani can offer during the T20I series against New Zealand earlier this year. It was unfortunate that Jordan picked up an injury in the opening match of that series, so we’re looking forward to seeing him get another opportunity at this level.

“This tour has also opened the door for players who have performed domestically. Duan is one of those players. He is a quality all-rounder who has also shown great character for the Titans.

“Bjorn is an experienced player and proven leader who has successfully captained the Lions, and we have every confidence in his ability to lead this group.

Conrad added: “It is always exciting to play against our neighbouring countries, and the first-ever ODI series between South Africa and Namibia adds further significance, especially as we build towards next year’s World Cup.”

South Africa 'A' (SA ‘A’), meanwhile, will host Bangladesh A in a two-match four-day series from 23 August-2 September, before contesting a three-match one-day series from 6-12 September.

Warriors seamer Matthew Boast and Boland batter Gavin Kaplan are the new faces across both squads.

Northern Cape Heat spinner Tshepo Ntuli, North West Dragons batter Meeka-eel Prince and Lions all-rounder Delano Potgieter are uncapped in the four-day squad, while the uncapped trio of Warriors batter Matthew de Villiers, spinners Imraan Manack (Boland) and Kyle Simmons (Western Province) are named in the 50-over squad.

Proteas spinner Senuran Muthusamy has been included in the four-day squad following his recovery from a left knee ligament injury.

The four-day squad will convene at the Centre of Excellence in Pretoria on 18 August to begin their preparations for the unofficial Test series, which gets underway at the Tuks Oval from 23 August.
