SA Rugby and Engen have officially renewed its long-standing partnership, reaffirming South Africa’s biggest fuel and convenience retailer’s commitment to supporting rugby at both professional and grassroots levels across the country.

The renewed agreement strengthens a relationship that continues to play an important role in the country’s rugby landscape. Through this partnership, Engen backs the Springboks on the global stage while investing in initiatives that grow the game and expand access to rugby within local communities.

SA Rugby CEO Rian Oberholzer welcomed the continued collaboration, highlighting the importance of long-term corporate partnerships in sustaining and advancing the game.

“For the past four years, Engen has been a committed partner to South African rugby,” said Oberholzer.

“The renewal of this partnership strengthens our ability to deliver excellence at elite level while continuing to expand access and development opportunities across the country. Partnerships like this play an important role in ensuring the long-term success, transformation and growth of rugby in South Africa.”

Few sports hold the same cultural significance in South Africa as rugby. It inspires pride, connects communities and shapes moments that extend far beyond the final whistle.

By aligning its brand purpose with the cultural impact of rugby, Engen continues to move beyond traditional sponsorship, playing an active role in supporting the game’s presence across the country. This includes initiatives that celebrate the supporters who form the heartbeat of South African rugby.

“Rugby is deeply embedded in the fabric of our country,” said George Roberts, Engen CEO.

“Our renewed partnership with SA Rugby reflects our belief that what matters to South Africans, matters to Engen. We are proud to support rugby across all levels, from the Springboks inspiring the nation to grassroots initiatives like Get Into Rugby that nurture the next generation of players.

“At Engen, we believe that with us, you are number one. This partnership allows us to continue playing a meaningful role in ensuring that rugby, and the opportunities it creates, remain accessible to communities across South Africa.”

As the 2026 rugby season unfolds, Engen will continue to activate the partnership through digital storytelling, matchday engagement and community-focused initiatives.

The renewed agreement reinforces Engen’s commitment not only to the sport itself but to the communities and everyday moments shaped by rugby across the country.
