Dolphins look to maintain momentum against Warriors in Pro20 Cup

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins will look to continue their encouraging run of form when they host the Dafabet Warriors in a crucial YesPlay Pro20 Cup encounter at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium on Tuesday.
A bonus-point victory over the North West Dragons in Potchefstroom last week has strengthened the Dolphins’ momentum heading into the closing stages of the competition, with head coach Quinton Friend pleased with the progress his side has made while remaining focused on the need for greater consistency.
“It was a nice bonus-point win in Potch last week and I think the team has hit some good form," Friend said. "There are still areas we need to improve on, and we are putting emphasis on those. It’s important that we focus on what we can do better because we are always looking to improve as the competition goes on."
The Dolphins’ batting has been a particular strength throughout the campaign, with several players producing performances that have placed them among the leading contributors in the competition. Friend believes that consistency will be vital as the race to the Super Eight's intensifies.
“From a batting point of view, we’ve been good throughout the competition. Some of our players have been hugely influential with the bat and it’s good to see how these guys have stepped up and executed their skills.
“We want to make sure they don’t take their form for granted but instead continue to produce big performances for the team as we head into a crucial stage of the competition and then into the Super Eight,” he added.
Tuesday’s meeting with the Warriors represents another important opportunity for the Dolphins to collect valuable points and build towards the next phase. With the competition approaching its decisive stretch, there is little room for complacency and Friend has challenged his side to deliver a complete performance.
“We’re always striving for consistency. That’s been the big discussion for us, being consistent in our skill sets. Our main focus has been to be as consistent as we can with bat and ball and in the field as well. We probably haven’t been at our best in the field but we’re looking for a clean game against the Warriors,” Friend mentioned.
The Dolphins will also be encouraged by the competition for places within the squad, with Keith Dudgeon continuing to train well as he pushes for an opportunity in the starting line-up.
“He’s been in our space and training well for a while since coming back from the UK. It’s not that he hasn’t been getting into the starting team, but the opportunity will probably be close for him. It’s nice to have that competition within the squad because it brings out the best in everybody, and we’re fortunate to be in that position,” the coach commented.
The match with the Warriors will be the start of their final stretch into the Super Eight's as they take on the SWD Badgers in their final group match on Friday at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium as well.
