Cricket South Africa (CSA) is deeply saddened by the passing of Shoaib Moosa, Director and Chief Commercial Officer of the Willowton Group, who passed away on Tuesday night.
Moosa was a remarkable leader whose involvement in cricket spanned many years and numerous capacities, including his instrumental role in sponsoring both Domestic and International Cricket.
His passion for the game was matched only by his advocacy for education, and his legacy is forever intertwined with the creation of the Sunfoil Education Trust (SET). Shoaib was a driving force behind the inception of SET, a fund designed to provide up-and-coming cricketers from disadvantaged communities with educational opportunities that extended far beyond the sport.
The proceeds for this life-changing initiative were generated through runs scored during Proteas Men's Test matches held in South Africa.
Moosa’s contributions were not limited to the cricket field. He was a pillar of his community and actively dedicated his time to various charitable causes. Most recently, through his heart foundation, he played a crucial role in providing heart surgeries for disadvantaged individuals, making a profound impact on many lives.
Reflecting on Moosa’s legacy, CSA President, Rihan Richards, commented: “Shoaib Moosa was more than just a business partner in cricket; he was a true advocate for the transformative power of both sport and education.
“His leadership, generosity, and commitment to uplifting young cricketers through the Sunfoil Education Trust will leave a lasting legacy. His humanitarian work extended far beyond cricket, and his impact on communities across South Africa cannot be overstated.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his family during this very difficult time.”
The Hollywoodbets Dolphins, together with the KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union, joined in mourning the passing of Moosa.
Moosa’s influence on cricket in the province of KwaZulu-Natal cannot be understated and the hard work and vision that he showed propelled cricket development into the spotlight.
His legacy had been etched on cricket through this passion and vision. His involvement and commitment to the KZNCU, Sunfoil, KZNDSAC Hub Development Programme has changed the lives of many providing a better and more hopeful future for many generations.
President of KZN Cricket Yunus Bobat passed his condolences to the Moosa family and the Willowton Group.

For the CEO of KZN Cricket Heinrich Strydom, Moosa’s legacy will live on after his passing.
“We work daily by the mantra that you need to leave the game in a better place than when you found it and Shoaib is an example of this.
“His dedication to the KZNCU, Sunfoil, KZNDSAC Hub Development Programme will live on, and he has been a crucial part in growing development cricket in South Africa.
“We hope that we can continue to honour his legacy through finding the next generation of Hollywoodbets Dolphins and Proteas stars.”
