Hollywoodbets Dolphins batter Marques Ackerman showcased his exceptional skill to finish the group phase of the CSA 4-Day Series as the competition’s highest run scorer, which played a significant role in keeping the Hollywoodbets Dolphins hopes of defending their title alive until the final group stage match.
Ackerman was one of the standouts for the Dolphins with his consistency with the bat notching up 571 runs through his 11 innings which included three fifties and one hundred.
That hundred, which was worth 140, came against the DP World Lions in December when the Dolphins drew a hotly contested clash at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium.
Reflecting on the season Ackerman was hugely disappointed by the fact that the Dolphins missed out on the final but was happy with how the team performed.
"It was a bitter pill to swallow going from first to fourth and not making the final," Ackerman said. "What made it even harder was the fact that we played some really good cricket this season.
"From a personal perspective it was a good campaign and I was happy with how I performed with the bat and it's a first for me to be the leading run scorer in this competition.
"The most satisfying thing was putting in those performances for the team and getting us into a good position in most of the games."
Ackerman felt that he had to make a significant contribution this campaign.
"I had a bit of a tough season last season, so I knew that I had to work hard on a lot of different things and technically change some things.
"I'm just really stoked that all the hard work in the offseason has paid off and I could put in those performances for the team," he added.
The Dolphins has an impressive run in the series, losing only one match which ultimately ended their otherwise dominant campaign. Despite the setback, the team’s overall performance showcased their resilience and skill on the cricket field and Ackerman feels that that's the take-away that should be focused on.
"It was a really good team performance from us this season and we'll make sure we build on it going forward."
The Dolphins now shift their focus to the CSA T20 Challenge which gets underway in March, a format that they enjoy having reached two finals and a semi-final in three years.
Dolphins ended last CSA T20 Challenge campaign as finalists and are more than eager to go one better this campaign.
They begin their charge for the title against World Sports Betting Western Province on Friday, 8 March at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium.
