The inaugural Metro T10 Cup kicked off this past weekend in Durban, with Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium playing host to an exciting three-day tournament from 12-14 September.

Four leading domestic unions, the Momentum Multiply Titans, DP World Lions, WSB Western Province and Hollywoodbets Dolphins, battled it out in a fast-paced format that delivered big hits, quick wickets, and thrilling finishes.

The Titans stamped their authority right from the start. Facing the Dolphins in the opening fixture on Friday. Andile Phehlukwayo’s explosive 61 off 30 balls and Keagan Lion-Cachet’s 30 off 14 guided the Sky Blues to a confident six-wicket victory after chasing down the Dolphins’ 111/7 to finish on 114/4.

On Saturday morning, the Titans continued their dominance, overpowering the Lions with an forceful eight-wicket win in just 6.3 overs. Their second fixture of the day against Western Province, however, was abandoned due to rain, ending in a draw. The results were enough to secure the Titans a place in the much-anticipated final.

The showdown against the hosts, the Dolphins, was a fitting final to the tournament. With Steve Stolk (43 off 20) and Divan de Villiers (20 off 11) leading the charge, the Titans powered their way to victory, lifting the trophy and being crowned the first-ever Metro T10 Cup champions.

Individual brilliance also shone through, with Phehlukwayo deservedly named Player of the Tournament for his outstanding all-round performances.

Reflecting on the win, Titans Cricket Head Coach Rivash Gobind said: “This tournament was a fantastic opportunity to test ourselves in a new, fast-paced format. The players showed character, adaptability and a fearless approach that makes us proud. Winning the inaugural Metro T10 Cup is special and it sets the tone perfectly as we head into a big season ahead.”

The Titans now shift focus to the CSA 4-Day Series, before turning their attention to the CSA T20 Challenge in November, aiming to carry their winning momentum into the new season.
