The Sunrisers Eastern Cape will be hoping to replicate their “perfect start” when they face Pretoria Capitals in their first home Betway SA20 clash at St George’s Park on Monday.
The two-times champions were excellent with the bat, led by a half-century from Jordan Hermann and solid contributions from new opening pair Quinton de Kock and Jonny Bairstow in their opener against Paarl Royals at Boland Park.
This laid the platform for their pace bowlers Marco Jansen, Adam Milne and Anrich Nortje to blow away the Royals for the lowest score in Betway SA20 history.
"The boys were excellent. I think that's the perfect start. I think that's what we asked for at the start and the boys gave it their all out there. Executed excellently,” said Sunrisers captain Tristan Stubbs.
The new skipper was particularly full of praise for the pace trio and is hoping they can repeat the damage on Monday.
“I don't want to face our bowling attack,” he said. “They are quite something.”
The Capitals, meanwhile, suffered a blowout at Centurion in the Highveld derby against Joburg Super Kings and will be eager to get their first points on the board.
Sourav Ganguly’s new-look Capitals side seemed on course for victory before losing five wickets for just 17 runs.
“We gave maybe 10-15 too much on a wicket that was a bit spicy. But we still brought it back really nicely. We sort of lost our way in the middle phase with the bat,” captain Keshav Maharaj said.
Maharaj is hoping for his bowling unit to rectify their mistakes at St George’s Park and is confident they get their Season 4 campaign up and running.
“We should have probably been a little bit more consistent with our lengths, maybe things might have been different if we rectify that,” he said.
“I thought we did really well in phases though. Not ideal to start this way but we need to iron out the cobwebs and go well into the next game."
