Montpellier Hérault Rugby produced a historic performance to defeat Ulster Rugby 59-26 in the EPCR Challenge Cup Final at San Mamés Stadium on Friday, recording the highest points tally ever by a team in a final in the competition’s 30-year history.
The French side crossed for nine tries and added seven conversions, setting new Final records in both categories as they completed an unbeaten campaign in emphatic fashion to lift the trophy.
The victory marks Montpellier’s third European title, following previous EPCR Challenge Cup triumphs in 2016 and 2021. The result brings them level with Harlequins (2001, 2004, 2011) and ASM Clermont Auvergne (1999, 2007, 2019) as the most successful clubs in the history of the competition.
