Kaneez Tuskers’ Chad Laycock etched his name into the history books with a remarkable six-wicket haul against Momentum Multiply Titans in the YesPlay Pro20 Cup on Tuesday, recording figures of 6/26 in a record-breaking bowling performance.

Laycock became the first bowler to claim four wickets in four consecutive deliveries and the first to take five wickets in a single over in South African T20 cricket.

His figures also set a new competition record, surpassing the previous best of 6/29 recorded by Beuran Hendricks in 2014.

After electing to bowl first in Pietermaritzburg, Tuskers initially struggled to contain the Titans, who raced to a 112-run opening partnership through Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Sinethemba Qeshile.

Laycock provided the breakthrough, dismissing Pretorius for a blistering 81 off 36 balls.

Qeshile followed three overs later for 46, while Dewald Brevis added 33 before falling to Bamanye Xenxe.

However, it was the 19th over that belonged to Laycock. He dismissed Leus du Plooy before removing Dayyaan Galiem, Aphiwe Mnyanda, Janco Smit and Esosa Aihevba in four consecutive deliveries, bringing the Titans' innings to a dramatic close at 204.

In reply, Michael Erlank led the Tuskers’ chase with 56, supported by Jack Lees’ 34 and an unbeaten 31 from Laycock. Despite their efforts, the hosts finished on 183/6, falling 21 runs short as the Titans extended their unbeaten run to six matches and strengthened their position at the top of Pool A.

Elsewhere, Northern Cape Heat recorded their first victory of the competition, defeating Wenbro Impalas by 14 runs in a rain-affected encounter at Kimberley Oval.

Batting first at home, Heat posted 171/6, with Steve Stolk leading the charge with an impressive 89, supported by Liam Doherty’s 39.

The Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method reduced the Impalas’ revised chase to just over eight overs. They managed 65/4, leaving them as the only Pool B side yet to register a victory.

In Potchefstroom, Hollywoodbets Dolphins maintained their position at the top of Pool B with a convincing seven-wicket win over North West Dragons.

The Durban-based outfit made fairly light work of what could have become a tricky chase of 145 as Bryce Parsons and Jason Smith guided their side home with 24 balls to spare.

The pair put on 70 for the third wicket in just over seven overs to break the back of the chase after the Dolphins were 65/2 at a stage during their innings.

It was a measured run chase in the end for the Dolphins who rarely looked flustered as Romashan Pillay (25) and Parsons put on 55 for the first wicket, while Grant Roelofsen fell 10 runs later for eight before Smith joined Parsons at the crease.

Parsons was the third wicket to fall when he was caught off the bowling of Caleb Seleka for 60 off 47 balls. Smith ended on 50 not out off 28 deliveries.

The Dolphins bowlers were disciplined in their approach after the home side decided to bat first as they put pressure on the Dragons batters throughout the innings.

Diego Rosier (45) and captain Wihan Lubbe (35) were the only notable contributions with the bat for the Dragons while the Dolphins skipper Prenelan Subrayen continued his fine form with the ball picking up 2/25 from his four overs.

Parsons, Smith and Okuhle Cele would all pick up a wicket each as the Dolphins restricted the Dragons to 144/5 from their 20 overs.

The win consolidates the Dolphins spot at the top of Pool B with four wins from their five matches as they head into the final two matches of the group phase.

Dolphins captain Subrayen continues as the top wicket taker in the competition having picked up 10 wickets across the five matches the Dolphins have played.

The Dolphins will now head back to Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium where they will face the Dafabet Warriors in their next match on Tuesday, 20 October.

DP World Lions also secured a hard-fought victory, edging Eastern Cape Iinyathi by five runs at DP World Wanderers Stadium to claim their third win in five matches.

Batting first after being sent in, the Lions posted 138 in their 20 overs, with Rassie van der Dussen top-scoring with 44 off 32 balls and Richard Seletswane contributing 24.

Iinyathi’s chase suffered an early setback with the dismissal of Nathan Roux but Christiaan du Toit and Jason Niemand revived their hopes with an 82-run second-wicket partnership.

The Lions regained control with a crucial cluster of wickets, as Du Toit, Michael Copeland and Niemand fell for the addition of just five runs. Iinyathi ultimately finished on 133/6, narrowly missing out on an upset.

The YesPlay Pro20 Cup continues on Wednesday with two fixtures. Flexbrands Knights host World Sports Betting Eastern Storm in Bloemfontein, while YesPlay Cobras welcome Dafabet Boland in Cape Town.
