Lawrence moves up to No 47 in world

Leading South African golfer Thriston Lawrence has moved to within one spot of his highest-ever world ranking, with the latest list released placing him at No 47.

The 2024 season’s Race to Dubai will culminate in the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, this coming weekend and the South African heads into the event as the second-highest rated player, behind Rory McIlroy.

He has had a spectacular year and ion the process has earned his place on the 2025 PGA Tour. Lawrence was the highest-placed South African in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, finishing tie sixth behind Paul Waring. Team SA’s 2016 Olympian Brandon Stone was tied for 19th.

Lawrence ended 2023 ranked No 81 in the world and he’s now up to 47th. Team SA’s Paris 2024 Olympians Christiaan Bezuidenhout (52nd) and Erik van Rooyen (73rd), are the only other two South Africans in the men’s top 100. Olympic gold medallist Scottie Scheffler remains at No 1 in the world.
