Round 2 notes

  • Round 2 of 4, with 24 elite clubs - eight each from the Gallagher Premiership, URC and TOP 14 - in four Pools of six. The four highest-ranked clubs in each Pool qualify for the Round of 16.

  • Kicking off Round 2 is Munster Rugby, second in Pool 3 with five points, who are on the road next Friday as they travel to Castres Olympique looking to build on the momentum of last weekend’s dominant performance. Kicking off at the same time, Sale Sharks, currently sixth in Pool 4, will host second-placed Racing 92 at home.

  • Northampton Saints, sitting top of Pool 3 on five points, will be looking to continue their title charge next week in South Africa when they take on the Vodacom Bulls.

  • Union Bordeaux-Bègles, currently third in Pool 1 with the maximum five points after an impressive four-try second-half comeback win last weekend against Leicester Tigers, will head to Northern Ireland to face sixth-placed Ulster Rugby.

  • Huge Pool 2 clash for Leinster Rugby and table toppers ASM Clermont Auvergne at the Aviva Stadium following dominant performances by both teams in Round 1.

  • Investec Champions Cup debutants Hollywoodbets Sharks look to build on the momentum of their opening Round 1 win in their Pool 1 clash with Leicester Tigers at Mattioli Woods Welford Road. The Hollywoodbets Sharks are currently second in Pool 1 with the maximum five points, while Leicester Tigers are fourth with one point.

  • Stade Rochelais looking to continue form at home into Round 2 as they host a Bristol Bears side that is determined to put some points on the board and improve on their fifth place in Pool 2.

  • Benetton Rugby welcome an in-form Bath Rugby to Italy; Harlequins host DHL Stormers at Twickenham Stoop; and Saracens travel to France to take on Stade Français Paris. All three host clubs are hoping to use their home-advantage to take their first Pool stage wins.

  • Pool 4 points leaders Glasgow Warriors travel to RC Toulon for their Sunday afternoon showdown, before Exeter Chiefs return home to face none other than defending champions and Pool 1 table-toppers Stade Toulousain as they look to improve their fifth position in the Pool in the final match of Round 2.
