World Sports Betting Western Province Women head coach Claire Terblanche says there is a real sense of excitement within the camp as the team prepares to return to action against Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers Women in round six of the Hollywoodbets Pro Series.
With the season restarting after the summer break, Terblanche believes this weekend’s fixture at WSB Newlands presents an important opportunity to lay a strong foundation for the remainder of the campaign.
Both the Pro50 and Pro20 matches will start at 10am and will be streamed live on the Cricket South Africa YouTube channel.
She highlighted that the matches will be key in setting the tone for the demanding run of back-to-back fixtures that follow, making a positive start will be crucial to build momentum and confidence going forward.
“We are very excited and focused on restarting the season on the right foot,” said Terblanche. “The weekends matches will set the tone moving forward into the rest of our back-to-back weekends and the players have been focused on doing what needs to be done in their respective skill sets and approaches to both formats.
“After our mid-season debrief getting back into the swing of things and focusing on what we can improve on in both formats with both the bat, and the ball will be a key focus.
“Again, just doing the basics with a lot more consistency are important discussion points at our sessions.”
Terblanche added that the squad has shown impressive focus and intent in training, with players fully committed to their individual skill sets and overall team plans.
The Girls in Blue will be looking to climb higher in the 50-over format, where they currently sit fourth on the log, while they occupy top spot in the T20 competition. With plenty still to play for, the focus remains on building momentum across both formats.
Terblanche acknowledged that the Badgers are expected to provide a competitive challenge this weekend but emphasised that the team remains firmly focused on their objective - reaching the final in both competitions.
“Badgers have always put up a competitive fight, especially against us and we expect nothing less this weekend at Newlands,” she said.
“This weekend we will set the tone for how we move up the 50 overs log, as well as keeping our position in the T20 log, both in respect to us wanting to reach the finals for both formats.”
