The Free State Cricket Union (FSCU) held its 134th Annual General Meeting last night, marking a significant and emotional moment in the Union's history. The meeting saw the departure of a beloved leader, the election of new leadership and the affirmation of the Union's strategic goals.
The AGM was a poignant occasion as FSCU bid farewell to Mme Zola Thamae, who has been an integral part of the Union for the past 16 years. Her leadership and dedication have been invaluable and while she embarks on a two-year sabbatical, the Union remains hopeful that she will return to continue her impactful work with FSCU in the future.
With Thamae's departure, the position of Vice President was left vacant. We are pleased to announce that Kenneth Moloi has been elected as the new Vice President of FSCU. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Moloi and wish him success in his new role as we continue to advance cricket in the Free State.
FSCU is proud to report that we have once again received a clean audit report, reflecting the dedication and expertise of our financial team. However, it must be acknowledged that cricket remains under financial strain. Despite these challenges, we are optimistic that the ongoing domestic restructuring will lead to a brighter financial future for the sport.
The FSCU has officially signed off on its strategic plan for the next five years, with all eyes firmly set on the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. This plan will guide our efforts to ensure that we are not only prepared but competitive on the world stage.
During the AGM, two nominations were received - one independent and one non-independent. These nominations will be addressed at the next council meeting, where further decisions will be made.
In a fitting conclusion to the evening, Thamae was knighted by our President, Xander Snyders, in recognition of her outstanding service to the Free State Cricket Union and the Knights. This honor reflects her unwavering commitment and the profound impact she has had on cricket in the region.
The FSCU is grateful for the continued support of our members, partners and the broader cricket community as we move forward with renewed focus and determination.
