EPCR is pleased to announce the tournament organiser of the Investec Champions Cup and EPCR Challenge Cup has successfully completed the EcoVadis assessment, earning the EcoVadis Committed Badge.

This recognises that EPCR’s management system addresses sustainability criteria, as outlined in in the EcoVadis methodology.

Following a rigorous assessment process and as part of EPCR’s ongoing commitment to sustainability as part of the impACT strategy, EPCR earned the EcoVadis Committed Badge with the overall sustainability performance rated as good.

The EcoVadis assessment is recognised globally as a trusted measure of business sustainability. More than 130 000 companies have been rated by EcoVadis since 2007, with the assessment measuring the quality of a company’s sustainability management system on three themes: Environment, Labour and Human Right and Ethics.

The assessment provides an objective evaluation of the inclusion of sustainability in the management of the organisation 14 months after the introduction of the impACT sustainability strategy, benchmarking EPCR’s sustainability performance with comparable organisations and providing guidance on improvements that can be made regarding sustainability policies, actions, and reporting.

EPCR achieved a strong showing in environmental practices, one of the three assessed themes, which underlines our significant efforts to improve environmental practices. All staff travel now tracked and reported with total GHG emissions, setting a baseline with the goal of reducing by 10% in the coming season.

EPCR’s impACT sustainability strategy consolidates and builds on EPCR’s existing and ongoing work in sustainability and social responsibility whilst highlighting EPCR’s commitment to delivering positive environmental change across the organisation through two key pillars.

“Respect” highlights EPCR’s commitment to good stewardship and the protection of resources required to sustain rugby both on and off the pitch. “Growth” looks to maximise the positive impact of EPCR competitions to create a legacy for the future of the organisation, game and society.

EPCR’s Chief Executive Officer Jacques Raynaud said: “We are delighted to complete the assessment and achieve recognition, sitting in the top 44% of all companies and assessed with a 'good' rating.

“Earning the EcoVadis Committed badge is an important part of developing the next steps for our impACT strategy and we are very clear where we can make improvements and achieve a higher rating and placement in our next assessment in 2025.

“As the world-leading international club rugby cup competition, we recognise our responsibilities to the game and the environment in which we play the game. This is an important step in defining our current position and where we can make positive contributions and changes in our processes in the future.”

EPCR’s Chief Revenue Officer François Vergnol added: “At EPCR, we are very responsive to our partners’ commitments to sustainability and the work with EcoVadis therefore enables us to provide objective proof that we are meeting key sustainability standards.

“We work hand-in-hand with our partners to grow together in the areas of CSR and sustainability, developing best practices and authentic CSR initiatives to increase our contributions in these areas.

“As one of the forerunners in the sports event industry to complete this assessment, we have identified clear areas for improvement and consolidation across key pillars, enabling EPCR to develop a clear pathway to deliver these goals over the next 12 months ahead of the next assessment, including initiatives that are already in place."
