Dolphins face crucial North West Dragons test in Potchefstroom

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins face a crucial encounter against the North West Dragons at JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom on Tuesday as they look to strengthen their position in the YesPlay Pro20 Cup.

The Dolphins have shown encouraging signs over their last three matches with three wins and will be eager to carry that momentum into a fixture that could prove important in their push for qualification.

Head coach Quinton Friend believes his side will need to be at its best against a competitive North West outfit, with the Dolphins aware that execution under pressure will be key to securing a positive result.

“North West are a good side. They get things right, they’re competitive, and they’re always going to challenge you," Friend said. "We’ve played some decent cricket over the last three games but this is a big one and it’s going to take a lot more from us.

“We need to execute our skills and make sure we take care of what’s in front of us.”

With the competition entering a crucial phase, Friend has stressed the importance of making the most of the Dolphins’ remaining fixtures, particularly with points potentially proving decisive in the qualification race.

The Dolphins have put considerable work into improving specific areas of their game and will be looking to translate that preparation into performances on the field, starting against the Dragons who might not have performed as well as they would have liked so far in the tournament.

“They’re still a very good side and I expect them to want to finish the competition strongly. That starts on Tuesday, so it’s important that we’re at our best and maintain the skill levels required to give ourselves the best chance of winning,” Friend added.

With two Division One opponents awaiting the Dolphins in their final three fixtures, Tuesday’s clash presents an important opportunity to collect valuable points and build further momentum heading into the closing stages of the competition.

Heading into the business end of the competition, Friend is happy with how his group is shaping up and evolving as the tournament continues.

“I’m pretty happy with how the competition has gone so far. The team is in a good space, and there’s a good blend of experience in the group. We’ve built some confidence over the last few games but we know there are still areas we need to improve.”

Friend has got the same squad to pick from and the team will be hoping to continue their consistent performance through the closing stages of the competition.
