It was a good day of cricket out at the WSB Newlands Cricket Ground for WSB Western Province when both men and women’s teams emerged victorious against Hollywoodbets Dolphins in the T20 double-header on Sunday.
In the T20 Challenge fixture, World Sports Betting Western Province recorded a five-wicket win. After electing to bowl first, the hosts delivered a disciplined performance to restrict the Dolphins to 138/7.
Mbulelo Dube was the standout with the ball, claiming 4/26 in his four overs to lead the attack with precision.
Joshua van Heerden (43) provided composure with the bat, guiding Western Province to the target with just under two overs to spare.
Earlier in the Hollywoodbets Pro20, WSB Western Province Women claimed a convincing 27-run victory.
A dominant batting effort saw Faye Tunnicliffe (83) and Dane van Niekerk (51) combine to post an imposing 187/3 in their 20 overs.
Despite a valiant effort from Alex Candler, who top-scored with 89, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins Ladies fell short and closed on 160.
Elsewhere, the much-anticipated Jukskei derby between the Momentum Multiply Titans and the DP World Lions was abandoned without a ball bowled due to persistent rain across Gauteng.
On Friday, dramatic scenes unfolded at Boland Park as Goldrush Boland and the Hollywoodbets Dolphins required a second Super Over to separate them.
Both teams finished on 134 after their 20 overs and remained deadlocked with seven runs apiece in the first Super Over.
The hosts then posted 10 runs in the second, before Keith Dudgeon held his nerve with the ball to secure Boland’s win and preserve their unbeaten run in this season’s T20 Challenge campaign.
Also on Friday, in Potchefstroom, the Momentum Multiply Titans edged a spirited Renault Potchefstroom North West Dragons side by seven runs in front of a vocal home crowd.
The Titans put on 196 thanks to a composed half-century from Heinrich Klaasen (53) and a crucial 43 from Andile Phehlukwayo, with contributions throughout the batting order.
Lesiba Ngoepe (65) spearheaded the Dragons’ chase, supported by skipper, Wihan Lubbe (46) and Ludwich Schuld (39) but the hosts ultimately fell just short.
On Saturday, the Dafabet Warriors registered an emphatic 54-run victory over the Moothee Ram Tuskers in Pietermaritzburg.
Matthew de Villiers continued his impressive form with another half-century, supported by Muhammad Manack, as the Warriors reached 181/7.
The Tuskers struggled in response and were dismissed for 127, handing the visitors a comprehensive win.
