World Rugby has published the ranking permutations for the final round of the Guinness Women's Six Nations and opening Pacific Four Series match this weekend.

Teams

  • For the first time in the Guinness Women’s Six Nations 2024, England can increase their rating with victory.

  • The Red Roses will increase their advantage at the top of the rankings by at least 0.47 rating points if they complete a Guinness Women’s Six Nations 2024 Grand Slam with victory over France in Bordeaux.

  • A win by more than 15 points would put England 6.34 points clear of New Zealand, while the gap would be 6.10 points if the margin of victory is smaller.

  • In contrast, a heavy defeat by France would see England’s advantage cut to just 3.34 points.

  • Even in such a scenario, France cannot move any higher than their present position of third with a win by more than 15 points leaving them 0.29 points behind New Zealand.

  • France are safe in third even with a heavy defeat because with a maximum points deduction of 0.73 possible they will remain above Canada, who cannot pick up any points this weekend. Canada play neighbours USA in the World Rugby Pacific Four Series 2024 opener in Los Angeles on Sunday and go into the game 13.70 points and five places better off in the rankings.

  • They cannot fall from fourth even with a heavy defeat while USA in victory could climb one place to eighth above a beaten Wales.

  • Scotland cannot improve on sixth place this weekend as there aren’t enough points on offer for a win against Ireland in Belfast to catch Australia, who sit 4.44 points above.

  • However, Scotland will trade places with Italy for the second weekend in a row if they lose and Italy beat Wales with the Azzurre becoming the higher-ranked of the two in sixth.

  • It is not possible for Scotland to drop any lower than seventh in defeat.

  • The highest that Wales can climb to is seventh if they end a seven-match losing run with victory over Italy. By contrast, they could fall as low as 10th in defeat if other results go against them.

  • Italy could also fall as low as 10th – equalling their lowest ever position and one they last occupied in August 2017 – if they lose by more than 15 points in Cardiff, Ireland beat Scotland by the same margin and USA upset Canada.

  • The most Ireland can climb is two places to eighth. They would need to beat Scotland by more than 15 points and hope Italy overcome Wales and USA fail to beat Canada for this to happen.

  • Ireland cannot drop out of the world’s top 10 in defeat this weekend as they have too big a cushion over Japan below.

Match officials

  • Aimee Barrett-Theron (South Africa) joins Sara Cox as the most-capped female referee of all time with Wales v Italy her 38th Test in the middle. The South African referees the fixture for the second time, having been in charge of the low-scoring 3-3 draw in 2019.

  • Natarsha Ganley (New Zealand) will make her Women's Six Nations debut in the middle with Ireland v Scotland in Belfast, a week after her first Championship appearance as an assistant referee last weekend. She recently refereed the Super Rugby Aupiki final between Blues and Chiefs Manawa.

  • Maggie Cogger-Orr (New Zealand) will referee a Test in France for the first time as Les Bleues host England in the Grand Slam decider. England are unbeaten with Cogger-Orr in the middle, while France lost their last outing, against Canada in WXV 1 last November.

  • Tyler Miller (Australia) will make her Test debut with USA v Canada in the Pacific Four Series. The Australian is on the HSBC SVNS 2024 panel and is hoping to be selected for her second Olympic Games in Paris this July.
