The relegation race is on in the Hollywoodbets Pro Series and victories for North West Dragons Women and Garden Route Badgers Women make for an interesting run at the bottom of the log.
On Saturday, competitive performances across all three matches highlighted the depth and resilience on display in the latest round of women’s domestic cricket, with wins for the Badgers, Dragons and DP World Lions Women in the Hollywoodbets Pro50.
The Badgers produced a composed all-round performance to secure a hard-fought 15-run victory over the Hollywoodbets Dolphins Ladies.
Batting first, the Badgers posted a competitive 208/8 from their 50 overs, anchored by a patient and assured knock from Julia Hoal, who top-scored with 80 off 107 balls.
She was well supported by Izel Cilliers (22 off 43) and a valuable, unbeaten cameo from Nicolien Janse Van Rensburg, who added 24 off 28 deliveries late in the innings.
In response, the Dolphins showed intent with the bat, led by Asakhe Nyovane’s brisk 52 off 52 balls, while EJ van Rensburg (38) and Micaela Andrews (29) contributed useful runs. However, the Badgers’ bowling attack held firm at key moments.
Kiara Fisher delivered a standout spell, claiming 4/38, while Zintle Kula (2/24) applied pressure through the middle overs. The Dolphins were eventually dismissed for 193 in 46.2 overs, falling short despite a spirited chase.
In Newlands, Dragons produced a dominant performance to comfortably defeat World Sports Betting Western Province Women by nine wickets.
Western Province were bowled out for 122 in 41.1 overs, with Kelsey Adams (47) and Caitlin Wyngaard (29) offering resistance at the top.
The Dragons’ bowlers maintained discipline, restricting scoring opportunities throughout the innings as Alyssa Erxleben and Jane Winster claimed three wickets apiece.
Chasing a modest target, the Dragons were clinical. Diedre van Rensburg anchored the innings with a commanding 77* off 119 balls, showcasing composure and control, while Phebe Molkenboer (24*) provided steady support as the Dragons reached 124/1 in 37.2 overs to seal an emphatic victory.
In Johannesburg, Lions edged out the Fidelity Titans Ladies by 19 runs in a low-scoring contest defined by disciplined bowling.
Batting first, the Lions were bowled out for 96 in 43.3 overs, with Jenna Evans (25) the top scorer in a challenging innings.
The Titans bowlers were impressive, led by Paulinah Mashishi who claimed 3/15, supported by Masabata Klaas (2/8) and Eliz-mari Marx (2/14).
Despite the modest target, the Titans struggled to build momentum in reply. Sophia Smale (28*) showed some resistance, with Klaas (18) offering brief support but the Lions’ bowlers struck regularly.
Relebohile Mkhize claimed a superb 5/25, supported by Ayabonga Khaka (2/25) ensured the Titans were dismissed for 77 in 29.6 overs, sealing a valuable win for the Lions.
