Veterans get a chance to shine



The stage is set for the inaugural International Masters Cricket Over-40s World Cup, scheduled to commence on Monday, in Cape Town.

This highly anticipated event will see 12 countries vying for glory over two weeks of thrilling cricket action.

The participating teams have been divided into two divisions: with Division A consisting of Australia, England, Canada, USA, Namibia and Zimbabwe while Division B will see New Zealand, Sri Lanka, India, Wales, UAE and the host nation, South Africa.

A total of 42 matches will unfold across premier league club and school grounds in Cape Town and its surrounds, showcasing the talents of some of the best Over-40s cricketers from around the globe.

The pinnacle of the tournament will be the final, taking place at the Wally Wilson Oval at Western Province Cricket Club on March 1.

All matches will be streamed live via PitchVision on the Veterans Cricket Association of South Africa (VCASA) YouTube channel, allowing fans worldwide to witness the excitement firsthand. Spectators are invited to attend all matches free of charge, with games commencing at 10.15am.

Roger Moult, Chairman of VCASA and Tournament Director, expressed his enthusiasm for the event.

“While the competition promises fierce on-field battles, it will also foster a strong social atmosphere, providing teams and supporters with ample opportunities to forge lasting bonds and celebrate the camaraderie of veterans’ cricket.

"As we have seen on many occasions in South Africa, sport brings people together. This tournament is no different, as we celebrate family, friendship and make long-lasting connections,” he said.

“Participants and visitors alike are encouraged to explore the vibrant city of Cape Town, from its iconic landmarks such as Table Mountain and Cape Point to the scenic winelands …” concluded Moult.

With anticipation and excitement building, the inaugural International Masters Cricket Over-40s World Cup promises to be a truly unforgettable celebration of cricket excellence and global camaraderie.
