Last chance for stars to shine

The journey to crowning the 2024 Betway SA20 champions is in full force. Season two has been a phenomenal success, captivating the hearts of fans and supporters across South Africa. As the League heads into the play-offs, the excitement reaches new heights with a spectacular line-up of matches and entertainment that promises to give a memorable experience for all.

The play-offs, taking place on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday, are also the last chance for fans to watch the superstars who have lit up the season before the final, with Heinrich Klaasen, Jordan Hermann, Matthew Breetzke, Jos Buttler, Leus du Plooy, Aidan Markram, Lizaad Williams, Lungi Ngidi, Noor Ahmed and a host of other players lighting up the stage.

The play-offs begin with a high-stakes clash at Newlands in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday, where table-topping Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Durban’s Super Giants will battle it out for a spot in the sold-out final on Saturday in Cape Town.

The Wanderers’ Eliminator Match on Wednesday is knock out cricket and promises to be a memorable family night out under the cricket lights, with home team Joburg Super Giants taking on Paarl Royals. Gates open at 2.30pm, giving kids a rare opportunity to play on the field, rain bat and ball giveaways, a chance to meet cricket heroes, a post-match autograph signing session and a guaranteed afternoon filled with activities and entertainment with a performance from the energetic electronic duo, Veranda Panda. Families and kids are not forgotten, with scholar’s and pensioners' tickets at 50% off for all matches.

The exclusive Party Zone, unlocked by Castle Lite, will cater to adults on both Wednesday and Thursday, offering jacuzzi’s, cold refreshments and the chance for a 'buy one get one free happy half hour' if a six lands in the Party Zone.

Jozi's Jol Day on Thursday is the last chance for Joburg to enjoy the Betway SA20 and sets the stage for the battle for the last spot in the final between the loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator. The day features thrilling cricket coupled with DJ performances and a live performance from Sunset Sweatshop. For even more chances to win, it will be the last opportunity for Joburg fans to be part of the Betway Catch 2-million.

Tickets are available at sa20.co.za. Betway account holders can enjoy the added benefit of getting their total ticket value in extra bets when purchasing tickets online.

The play-offs and final are staking a step towards sustainability with the announcement of a partnership with water purification and beverage solutions company, Bluewater. The move is the first stage towards a more sustainable and eco-friendly league, with the end goal of limiting the need for single-use plastic water bottles and the promotion of sustainable hydration practices.

As a world leading provider of innovative water purification, Bluewater will enable safe, healthy hydration for players, fans, and staff throughout the play-offs and final without contributing to plastic waste.

Graeme Smith, League commissioner, says this is an important first step towards making the League a sustainable event: “We are excited to take our first small step towards reducing the use of single-use plastic at the Betway SA20. This partnership helps us ensure that we are committed to both improving access to clean drinking water amongst our participants, attendees and contractors as well as reduce plastic waste. It also reinforces the company's commitment to improving access to clean drinking water globally and creating a positive impact on human health and the environment.”

Bluewater has provided state-of-the-art water filtration units for the three playoff matches and at the final. These units will be used by players in the dugouts at all matches, with every member of the qualifying teams receiving a customised reusable stainless-steel Bluewater bottle with a lifetime warranty, replacing single-use plastic bottles.

Commenting on the new partnership, Janneke Brasecke, General Manager of Bluewater Africa, said: “Professional sport has a unique opportunity to drive both awareness and action on planet-wide sustainability challenges. With the alarming reliance on single-use plastic bottles still so apparent at many events and venues around the world, this is a bold and important step by Betway SA20 to demonstrate that there is now a real and present solution for providing sustainable and healthy hydration at cricket events without harming people and planet.

“We are hugely proud and excited to be launching this new collaboration with Betway SA20 and we really hope it inspires many other events and venues to follow suit in ending the stranglehold of plastics in sport,” Brasecke concluded.
