The Bulls Daisies have signed utility back Naima Hlatswayo on a 12-month-long semi-professional contract. Hlatshwayo is described by her coach Hayden Groepes as a promising star of the future.
“It has been good to watch Naima grow into her own, working hard and constantly wanting to learn. She has been pushing and pushing for her time of recognition, and finally, it has happened. She is a promising future star for the Daisies and the national setup, a definite gem in our environment.”
Groepes added: “It is important for us to retain the young talent amongst our ranks, motivating them to continue contributing to this project and see that there is a pathway to develop their game. This should also give confidence to the local clubs because their talent pool is growing and being recognised by the level above them.”
The Junior Springbok has enjoyed a stellar 2024 both on the domestic and national stage and now hopes to learn from her seniors in the professional setup.
“I am happy to be getting this opportunity to be alongside some of the best rugby players we have in South Africa. Getting to learn from them every day and seeing the level of commitment needed to be like them is motivating.
“The year has been amazing from a personal front, getting a national call-up, getting to make my debut for the Daisies and now getting the opportunity to sign my first contract. I hope to continue growing as a player, becoming better skilled and positively contribute towards the success of the team.”
